May is a special month for me, for many reasons. For starters, on May 2nd, my second child was born, and I could not have asked for a more kind and loving son. Brody happens to be an incredibly talented visionary, entrepreneur and loving husband to Bethany.  May is also the month we recognize Mother’s Day. I have the honor of celebrating this day with my 31-year-old daughter Brea, who is also a mom, (an excellent one at that), which makes me the ”Mimi” to two beautiful grandsons whom I adore more than tongue can tell. To me, becoming a mother was life’s greatest gift, and watching my daughter with her children, is a joy to behold.

Another reason for me to get excited about this three letter month is that on May 26th, my remarkable, huge-hearted husband Karl and I will toast our 7-year wedding anniversary. Indeed, “Love is lovelier the second time around.”

Lastly, this is the month that I answered my life’s calling to become an entrepreneur. I didn’t have a crystal ball back in May of 1989, just a few hundred dollars, a card table for a desk and a folding chair. What I lacked in resources and office walls, I made up for with passion, perseverance, self-confidence, and a plan. After working in the confines of a cubicle, I knew I needed to be independent, tenacious, and create a life for my children that they would reflect on with gratitude and a desire to pay-it-forward. I wanted to teach them valuable lessons about working hard, generosity, and to experience the joy of achievement, especially after setbacks and disappointments (and there were plenty of these.) I felt strongly that my children needed to understand the true meaning of integrity and know, with certainty, the consequences of unkept promises. They tell me often, and in many ways that theirs was a wonderful life with an enterprising mother. I may not have made it to every ball game, but they each knew I was and continue to be, their biggest super fan.

On this first day of May, Impact! Communications, Inc., is, as we were nearly three decades ago, committed to being our best for those we serve, and doing everything possible to make a positive difference. It’s not what we do. It’s who we choose to be when we’re working to improve communication and culture in healthcare. With our words, actions and intentions, each of us makes an impact every day. I think the writing is on the wall is pretty clear.  Do something today that your future self will thank you for.  Please share with me how you’ll make a positive impact during the month of May, and every day. @MRBImpact #MakeanImpact
